For Your Consideration #13: Evil Dead 2

A couple drives up to an abandoned cabin in the woods. A long lost Book of the Dead unleashes an ancient evil. Horror ensues(!)

A Proto-Edgar-Wright horror-comedy, this Sam Raimi directed cult classic is a breathless, balls-to-the-wall entertainer brimming with clever SFX and satisfyingly over the top gore.

Low on sense and high on thrills and badassery, the plot pulls left hook after left hook as it progressively descends into hilarity and absurdity.

This genre-bender manages to mix bloodbaths with fresh visual comedy to create an all-out entertainer with a high re-watch value and one of the most unexpectedly satisfying catharses I have ever experienced.

Even 30+ years after its release, it lives up to its status as a cult classic.

Score: classic/10
